The Journal of Sustainable Construction Materials and Project Management (JSCMPM) acts as a leading international platform for advancing knowledge and innovation in the sustainable use of construction materials and the effective management of construction projects. It aims to promote evidence-based solutions that tackle urgent challenges related to resource efficiency, environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and equitable development in the built environment. By encouraging interdisciplinary research and practice, the journal supports the global effort to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, resilient infrastructure, sustainable transportation systems, mobility, and climate action.
JSCMPM welcomes original research articles, technical notes, review papers, and case studies that present novel insights, systematic analyses, and practical applications in the following key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Sustainable and Alternative Construction Materials: Research on recycled aggregates, quarry dust, fly ash, calcined earthen resources, industrial by-products, innovative admixtures, and composite materials that reduce environmental impact and improve construction efficiency; including life-cycle assessment, durability studies, and circular economy practices.
Construction Project Management: Advances in construction productivity, resource optimization, quality and safety management, sustainable procurement, risk and contract management, logistics, digital transformation (e.g., BIM, digital twins), and waste minimization in project delivery.
Transportation Engineering: Studies addressing sustainable transportation infrastructure, encompassing innovative pavement and roadway materials, traffic flow analysis and modeling, smart and green mobility solutions, safety and logistics management, and other strategies that enhance efficiency, resilience, and environmental sustainability of transportation networks, particularly in developing and climate-vulnerable regions, in alignment with the SDGs.
Infrastructure Systems and Applications: Sustainable approaches for roads, bridges, railways, ports, harbors, airports, and other critical infrastructure, integrating new materials and methods to improve resilience, climate adaptation, and low-carbon development.
Policy, Economics, and Education for Sustainability: Insights on regulatory frameworks, financing models, incentives, educational initiatives, and capacity-building strategies that promote the adoption of sustainable materials and project management practices in the construction industry.
By providing a platform for rigorous research and knowledge exchange across academia, industry, and government, JSCMPM supports evidence-based innovations that advance the construction and transportation sector’s contribution to sustainable development.

The main objective of the journal is to disseminate the scientific and technological developments made in the field of composite materials, which might be of interest to AEMAC and to all other professionals to whom this journal is addressed. Under this scenario, are of special interest for the journal all works developed in Spain, Portugal and Latin America, as well as works from any other origin that might be of interest to be shared in the journal’s forum.
AEMAC organizes biyearly the National Congress on Composite Materials. In this congress all Spanish community working with composite materials shows and shares their most recent developments on the different disciplines related to these materials. It is a compromise of this journal to publish all oral communications presented in the congress with an associated manuscript. These manuscripts will be published in the period between congresses.
Volumes of the Materiales Compuestos journal will be published on a three-month basis. The journal, as well as the papers in it, will be published in open format. This aims to avoid restrictions to the published work and to increase it diffusion among the community.
The journal will also publish monographic volumes dealing with subjects of special interest for the community. These volumes will not have an established periodicity. The proposal of the subjects to be treated by the monographic volumes will come from the editorial team, who is opened to any proposal about the convenience of publishing a monographic dealing with a specific subject. To do so it is necessary to contact the editorial team with an email.
Materiales Compuestos journal will publish papers in Spanish and English, indistictly. However, with the aim of reaching a broader audience, all works published must include an abstract in written in both languages.
Finally, the editorial team encourages journal readers to subscribe to it in order to receive information regarding the publication of new numbers and any other information that might be of their interest.
